SUMMARY:Prairie Readers
DESCRIPTION:Prairie Readers\nWednesday\, MAY 16 | Westminster Parlor | 1 PM\nBook Selection: “Back When We\nWere Grown Ups” by Anne Tyler.\nFacilitator:  Judy White. \n \n“STUNNING . . . ‘Once upon a time\,’ the story begins\, ‘there was a woman who discovered she had turned into the wrong person.’ . . . With Rebecca Davitch\, Tyler has created a character who is brave enough to look back on her life and to imagine herself making different kinds of choices. Brave enough to wonder what honesty looks like\, whether there is ever really a single distillation of self that is unshakable and true. . . . Anne Tyler has a talent for spinning out characters . . . who go on living long after their stories end.”\n–The Baltimore Sun

SUMMARY:Hostamaina
DESCRIPTION:Hostamania is set for Mother’s Day\, May 13\nWestminster’s annual plant sale got its name because\, about 30 years ago\, Clay Bradley was doing a renovation that required moving 25\, or so\, Hosta plants. We put them in pots and added some other varieties of landscape plants and put on a plant sale. The idea stuck. \nOver the years the management of the sale slid under the Lohmen umbrella and folks active in that project took care of the details and used the earnings to host our German visitors or finance a gift and provide a church-wide American meal while in Lohmen. \nThis July a youth contingent is traveling to Germany and WPC youth will be working Hostamania to supplement their trip. What shoppers spend on donated landscape plants will be a welcome shot in the arm for these young international travelers. It is a remarkable thing to get to do. \nHostamania is always on Mother’s Day\, and you will see a fine array of mostly perennial plants. The relaxed pricing means shoppers are expected to pay a fair price yet still get great bargains.

SUMMARY:PRAIRIE READERS BOOK CLUB
DESCRIPTION:  \nPrairie Readers Wednesday\, APRIL 18 | 1 PM\nWestminster Parlor\nBook Selection: “Home Front” by Kristin Hannah.\nFacilitator: Diana Wild. \nBestselling author Kristin Hannah explores the intimate landscape of a troubled marriage with this provocative and timely portrait of a husband and wife\, in love and at war. \nFrom a distance\, Michael and Joleen Zarkades seem to have it all: a solid marriage\, two exciting careers\, and children they adore. But after twelve years together\, the couple has lost their way; they are unhappy and edging toward divorce. Then the Iraq war starts. An unexpected deployment will tear their already fragile family apart\, sending one of them deep into harm’s way and leaving the other at home\, waiting for news. When the worst happens\, each must face their darkest fear and fight for the future of their family. An intimate look at the inner landscape of a disintegrating marriage and a dramatic exploration of the price of war on a single American family\, Home Front is a provocative and timely portrait of hope\, honor\, loss\, forgiveness\, and the elusive nature of love. \n  \n
