DESCRIPTION:Souper Bowl of Caring\nDonations will be collected during worship this Sunday\, Feb. 12th \nFor over 30 years\, the Souper Bowl of Caring movement has been inspiring people across the nation to tackle hunger in their local communities. \nOn February 12th\, we will join churches across the country in collecting money for the hungry and homeless in our community. \nThe funds we collect will be used to support both Matt Talbot and the Gathering Place. Please give generously — look for youth group representatives holding soup pots by the sanctuary exits. Every dollar donated creates over $20 for food charities\, which means that a gift in any amount is greatly appreciated and truly makes a difference.

As the recently retired director of libraries\, Pat has had many accomplishments in this role\, including helping libraries navigate the pandemic. Pat is a reader\, life long learner\, and wonderful speaker who cares deeply for the Lincoln community.

He is one of seven members of the Lincoln City council. He was reelected to his second four-year term in May of 2021. Bennie grew up in Bowling Green Kentucky. He attended Western Kentucky University where he earned a bachelor’s and a master’s degree before moving to Nebraska to study at UNL. \n\n\nSince moving to Lincoln\, Bennie has been involved with several community groups and organizations.  He has served as president of the Lincoln Branch NAACP\, on the Lincoln Commission on Human Rights board\, the Malone Community Center Board of Directors\, the Indian Center board and a host of advisory committees.

Carl is a great communicator and public servant who cares deeply for the community of Lincoln. \nOn Sunday\, January 15\, our guest will be Steve Smith\, Director of Communications at Civic Nebraska. Steve is a correspondent and speaker with more than 25 years of award-winning writing\, editing\, media relations\, and public relations experience.

SUMMARY:History Buffs Presents A Walking Tour:
DESCRIPTION:The Ghosts of Epworth Lake Park \nWhat lies beneath Wilderness Park? Joint us as we go back in time to explore the remains of Epworth Lake Park\, the largest summer gathering place in the US from 1903-1940. \nIn 1903\, the Methodist Church Epworth League established a 32-acre resort and gathering place in a pleasant\, wooded meadow along Salt Creek.  It would become the largest summer gathering place west of the Mississippi.  People would come from surrounding states to hear speakers including William Jennings Bryan\, Billy Sunday\, Carrie Nation\, Enrico Caruso\, and other famous personalities in an auditorium that could accommodate over 5000 people.  There were 500 campsites\, a lake for boating\, hotels\, grocery stores\, even a post office.   But by the 1940’s\, the Park was gone.  It was swallowed up by Wilderness Park.  \nToday\, many hikers and cyclists follow trails where Epworth Lake Park once stood.  But many hidden traces and the history of the Park endure.  On Saturday\, October 15th\, Steve Larson will lead a walking tour where the remains and the ghosts of Epworth Park will be revealed.  The tour begins at the original entrance to the Park located at 1st and West Calvert Streets.   \n
