SUMMARY:Monmouth College Chorale Concert
DESCRIPTION:Monmouth College Chorale Concert \nThe Monmouth College Chorale will present a concert at Westminster Presbyterian Church\, 2110 Sheridan Blvd\, Lincoln\, NE at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday\, March 4 as part of the group’s spring break performance tour to Colorado. The 31-member choir\, directed by Dr. Tim Pahel\, will perform a wide variety of literature\, from classical to folk and multicultural music. The Monmouth Chamber Choir\, a select group of 15 students\, will also perform several selections\, including two vocal jazz pieces. The concert is free and open to the public. \n  \nMonmouth College \nFounded in 1853 as an academy by pioneering Scotch-Irish Presbyterians\, Monmouth College provided the sense of civilization to the people of the rough frontier and spoke of traditional values to those who were shaping a new world.  In true collegiate fashion\, Monmouth stresses the unity and equality of the academic disciplines that compose it.  The College’s chief interest lies in providing its students a generous understanding of human experience; individual disciplines receive their sense of direction from that larger commitment rather than permitting the specific interest to become an end in itself. \nMonmouth College is a four-year\, liberal arts college offering the bachelor of arts degree and is fully accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.  It is located in western Illinois\, midway between Chicago and St. Louis.  With an enrollment of approximately 800\, students receive personal attention in the classroom and have the opportunity to actively participate in a variety of extracurricular activities. \n  \nThe Monmouth College Chorale \nThe Monmouth Chorale\, under the direction of Professor Tim Pahel\, is a highly selective mixed ensemble which performs regularly on and off campus. The Chorale serves as the centerpiece for the annual “Christmas at Monmouth” concert and maintains an active and demanding rehearsal and performance schedule. Engaging students from nearly every major offered at Monmouth College\, the Chorale gives students well-rounded musical experiences with high expectations for performance and competency. The group serves as an ambassador to alumni\, prospective students\, and the general public. \nThe Chorale has toured extensively both nationally\, visiting nearly half the states in the country and including performances in New York City’s Carnegie Hall in 2013 and 2018\, and internationally\, including trips to Austria\, the Czech Republic\, Spain\, and Italy\, where the group performed at the Vatican. \nThe Chorale frequently collaborates with other area ensembles such as the Galesburg Community Chorus and the Knox College Choir. Recent performances have included Brahms’s Requiem\, Verdi’s Requiem\, and Haydn’s Mass in Time of War.   \nDr. Tim Pahel\, Director \nTim Pahel is Professor of Music\, Director of Choral and Vocal Activities\, and Chair of the Music Department at Monmouth College. He directs the Monmouth College Chorale and Chamber Choir and teaches music history\, conducting\, and private voice. Prior to coming to Monmouth\, Dr. Pahel served as Professor and Music Coordinator at Carl Sandburg College and also taught courses and directed ensembles at Knox College. \n\nDr. Pahel has toured with the Monmouth Chorale both nationally and internationally\, including trips to Austria\, the Czech Republic\, Spain\, Italy and twice to New York City to perform in Carnegie Hall. He made his Carnegie Hall debut in May 2018\, conducting the Monmouth Chorale and other high school and college choirs and the New England Symphonic Ensemble in a performance of Vaughan Williams’s Dona nobis pacem. \n\nDr. Pahel has been the director of the Galesburg Community Chorus since 2001\, and with that group has conducted numerous major works for chorus and orchestra including\, most recently\, Verdi’s Requiem\, Handel’s Messiah\, Mozart’s Requiem\, and Orff’s Carmina Burana.\n\nDr. Pahel holds a bachelor’s degree from Lawrence University in Appleton\, Wisconsin\, a master’s degree in Piano Performance from the University of Illinois\, and a doctorate in Choral Conducting from the University of Iowa\, where he studied conducting with Dr. Timothy Stalter. \n\nAn active member of the American Choral Directors Association\, Music Educators National Conference\, the Illinois Music Educators Association\, and the National Association of Teachers of Singing\, Dr. Pahel is a frequent adjudicator for high school solo and ensemble contests as well as a clinician for large group contests and festivals. \n
