Education

Adult Education

Westminster Presbyterian Church continues the timeless theological quest that seeks to deepen our understanding of the life, death, and resurrection of our Lord, Jesus Christ, as well as to order both authentically and intelligibly our words about God.  A number of Adult Education Scripture study classes and other seminars meet Sunday mornings at 9 a.m., as well as other times throughout the week.

Westminster Preschool (3-5 years)

Westminster Preschool offers preschool and extended care for children ages 3-5 in a safe, nurturing environment where children can develop spiritually, emotionally, socially, physically, intellectually, and culturally. Our program balances child-initiated and teacher-directed activities, with an emphasis on creativity and play, and is the only church-based preschool in Lincoln that is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children.  Navigate to www.wpslincoln.org for more information.

A scholarship fund has been established to assist children attending Westminster Preschool. Financial donations can be directed to the church business office. Contact Suzanne Schneider: 402-475-6702, ext. 103.

Kindergarten of Eden Sunday School (3-5 years)

Classes meet at 10:45 on Sunday mornings.  Led by nurturing volunteers, the classes teach Bible-based stories of God and God’s People using a wide range of activities: stories, songs, crafts, and games.

Faith Village Sunday School (K-5th Grade)

Classes meet at 9 and 10:45 on Sunday mornings, and use the theory of multiple intelligences. Monthly themes help children go deeper into the Bible, and workshops in areas such as cooking, art, drama, music, computers, games, science, videos, and storytelling help all children experience the stories in ways that are meaningful to them. Class sessions open with group songs, the Lord’s Prayer, and an offering.

Middle School Sunday School (Grades 6-8)

Volunteer as a member of a teaching team or assist the program in a variety of ways. Commitments range from weekly (September – May) to a few hours.

Senior High Sunday School (Grades 9-12)

Faith Building Blocks (Birth-Confirmation/9th Grade)

This series of extra faith-building opportunities is designed to help children build a firm foundation of faith and strong sense of God’s love, and to give families opportunities to learn and grow in faith together, from baptism through confirmation.  Most of these “blocks” are one-session classes outside of regular Sunday School hours, and are designed for participation by both parents and children.  Children who are not regularly attending Sunday School are still encouraged to participate.

Vacation Bible School (3 years-5th Grade)

Held in June.  Children embark on a thematic adventure to discover more about God’s amazing love.

Creative Arts Camp (K-5th Grade)

Held in July. Community experts in the arts encourage children to discover and respond to God through art, dance, music, rhythm, drama, and more.

Drama Camp (K-8th Grade)

Held during Lincoln Public Schools spring break.  Budding Thespians partnered with community leaders work together to produce a full-scale drama by week’s end. Children learn skills in speaking, movement, makeup, staging, set creation, and the value of group effort.
